Alaska Reunion

                      HOME

On September 22, 2008, Sharen, who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease of the familial type earlier this year, embarked on a 4,000 mile adventure with her companion, Bud. The goal? A reunion with Sharen's cousin, Alma, who resides in Alaska and who is also experiencing progressive memory loss related to Alzheimer's disease. Share their adventure in images and audio clips, by visiting this link daily.

DAY ONE

Destination Illinois. A late start. A dead battery. Is God trying to tell me something?

DAY TWO

Destination North Dakota. Dreary, rainy day. Glad Bud is here. Missing Toby. But, hey, we're making progress.

DAY THREE

Destination Saskatchewan. Two long days of traveling turn out to be way too much!

DAY FOUR

Destination Saskatchewan...again. Fewer miles today, but boy do we feel better!

DAY FIVE

Destination British Columbia. Cell phone problems.

DAY SIX

Destination British Columbia...high amidst the Northern Rockies.

DAY SEVEN

Through the Canadian Rockies to Yukon Territory.

DAY EIGHT

Destination Alaska. Two steps forward, one step back.

DAY NINE

Almost there – Sharen is reunited with best friend Alice and the crew.

DAY TEN

Alma welcomes Sharen, Bohdi welcomes Bud. Who could ask for anything more?

The Way Home

Sharen and her cousin Alma are now on their way home together.
